June 5, 2020 Statement

The images of George Floyd's life being violently taken from him are deeply painful to watch. It fills us with sorrow that this and other similar acts of violence against the Black community are the product of continued deep systemic racism and injustice within the US society. Such events reaffirm the need to denounce racism and injustice whenever we encounter it. We stand in solidarity with those who have been harmed and those who experience racism and injustice in their daily lives. We strive to work toward equality, equity, and inclusion within LArIAT, the scientific community, and our local communities. We recognize that we will not see change until we commit to actions that do bring change. The views expressed here are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of Fermilab.

LArIAT is the repurposed ArgoNeuT detector, modified for use in a charged particle beam. It is a small volume Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) dedicated to the calibration and precise characterization of output response of these detectors. The charged particle test beam provides a controlled environment in which to tune simulations and to develop tools for particle identification, calorimetry, and event reconstruction without relying solely on simulation.
